If you’ve read any of my recent posts, you’re well aware that I am an avid soccer fan. You have also, in all likelihood, caught onto the fact that the World Cup is underway in Brazil. For the next month, the world’s best will be competing for a chance to hold the World Cup Trophy. This 18 carat masterpiece is the most sought after trophy on Earth.

But why do the players collectively hoist this particular trophy? Who is responsible for the iconic design? How was the design selected?
